Directions

Clarens is 2.5-hour drive from Bloemfontein, 3-hours from Johannesburg and 3.5-hours from Durban. DIRECTIONS TO GET TO CLARENS FROM GAUTENG (Recommended from the East side of Johannesburg. )

1. Take the N3 from Johannesburg to Durban.

2. As you cross the Vaal River at Villiers, before the Toll Gate, turn off the N3 and follow the R26 to Frankfort.

3. Continue with the R26 until you get to a T-Junction.

4. TURN TO YOUR RIGHT towards Frankfort.

5. Pass the town of Frankfort and cross a bridge over a large river.

6. Veer towards the left still on the R 26 towards Tweeling.

7. Continue straight on with this road, the R26, over a stop street and past Reitz.

8 When you get to Bethlehem carry on through 2 sets of traffic lights, then a four way stop, and then through a third set of traffic lights, and past a large Engen Garage on your right.

9. About 6 kms from Bethlehem turn onto the R711/2 to Golden Gate & Clarens. You are about 25 kms from Clarens.

10. You will pass through the Noupoort or Nek of Clarens. Continue down the hill until you see the road leading into the village at the bottom of the hill. Turn right into the village of Clarens.

First you must collect your Chalet key from Mountain Odyssey Tourist Information Centre. Drive up Main Street and Mountain Odyssey is about 50m on the left (before you reach President Square). If you are arriving late, telephone Mountain Odyssey to arrange alternative key collection - tel : +27 58 256 1173 or cell/mobile : +27 82 654 9989. To get to your chalet you must turn around and go back down Main Street. Just before the junction where you entered Clarens is a small cross-roads - take the right-hand turn and drive past the shops, cafes and Engen petrol station. Travel approx 800 m over 2 speed humps and you will see a road to the left called Trans Caledon Street. Turn left here, and then after a further 50m is a steep driveway on your left taking you to the Larola Chalets covered parking. Park your car in the bay number appropriate to your Chalet number. Your chalet is directly in front of you (look for the name Chalet Thabela (No. 22) or Chalet Phomosa (No. 23). Check in: 14:00 (2.00 pm) Check out: 10:00 am Please make sure you return your key to Mountain Odyssey when you depart after your holiday.
