Activities

After some of the finest game viewing, cuisine and views in our reserve, guests can simply relax on pool loungers overlooking the river and majestic scenery.

Birding
The bird life is prolific with over 300 bird species recorded. Among the “specials” on the bird list are African Fish Eagle, Cape Vulture, Crowned Eagle, Martial Eagle, Ground Hornbill, Narina Trogon, Knysna and Purple – Crested Tauroco (Loerie).

Butterflies & Frogging
A wide variety of butterfly species are seen in the woodlands and high lying grasslands as well as a wide variety of frog species are found in the reserve.

Game Drives and Self-Guided Walks
Enjoy an informative experience with our knowledgeable rangers, in an open game viewer, tracking game and bird species. For our young guests (under 6 yrs) a special game drive is organized.

Self-guided walks are possible in the reserve around the lodge, as none of the larger and more dangerous mammals roam the walking trails in the reserve. Should you wish guided walks with one of our experienced game rangers can be arranged for an more enlightened walk, introducing you to the many insects, plants, trees and birds, giving you a chance to experience first hand, the tranquillity and magic of the African wild.
 
Fishing
A variety of indigenous and alien fish occur in the Umkomaas River. Carp, sharp tooth catfish (barbel), carp (alien), KwaZulu Natal Yellow fish, African mottled eel and chubby-head barb. Guests are welcome to bring their own rods and try their hand at fishing
 
River Rafting
For the adventurous, the Umkomaas River beckons, offering a river rafting experience with guides during the months of November to March.

Golf
We will gladly arrange transport to our nearest golf courses, which are only a mere 15 minutes and 40 minutes from our reserve.
 
Star Gazing
Guests can enjoy a star gazing evening as part of the African bush experience. Your guide can give you some insight into not only the Greek mythology with the stars, but also the Zulu folklores, most of which are long forgotten.
