PORTFOLIO COLLECTION – Irene Young & Lindy Duffield
Thank you to the team at Duma Manzi – what a very special place. There is so much beauty in nature we need look no further. So much attention to detail. Lots of attention, kindness and friendliness. An outstanding dinner!!
PATRICIA VAN DER LINDEN
Heavenly and absolutely stunningly beautiful - world class! Just the most beautiful spot in the world. Have loved every minute we’ve spent here. Thank you for a 10-star “bush” experience.
GREENWOOD GUIDE – Emily Elgar
This can be an exhausting job, but as I drove through Duma Manzi's gates, my final destination after a few dusty weeks on the road, I knew instinctively that this lodge was going to be the jewel in the crown. Leaving my car, phone and computer behind, I climbed aboard a 4x4 and as my fists and busy mind unfurled, I sat back and drank in some astonishing views over the Spitz Kop hills and way, way (way) down to the Umkomaas River.
As we rumbled along my friendly guides told me the history of the 5,000-hectare conservancy. Once 16 separate farms (one of which was Cecil Rhodes’ cotton farm) the Perry’s are re-introducing the wild animals whose home this really is. After viewing a herd of buffalo as well as numerous buck, zebra, giraffe and warthog I devoured a home-made scone at a vertiginous viewing site before our descent to the lodge itself. Camouflaged against the sandstone cliffs and balancing on the edge of the ‘Thundering River’ (Duma Manzi in Zulu) the two lodges – Fish Eagle and Sandstone - are a triumph of engineering as well as luxury. Antique rugs and local sculpture lead to a grand hall, full of African curios and dark wood furniture. All the rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to balconies and the river.
The only peeping toms here are fish eagles and over 300 other bird species. After taking a swim in my pool… and then my bath, I pirouetted round my room and dined like a king in the huge boma. Finally as I drifted to sleep I reminded myself that, exhausting though it might be, this job wasn't all bad!
MILADY’S
We could hardly have discovered a more picturesque location to photograph our latest summer fashions that Duma Manzi Private Game Reserve. Overlooking the breathtaking Umkomaas River Valley in the KZN Midlands, the reserve is named Duma Manzi because it means “thundering water” in isiZulu. Home to rhino, buffalo, leopard and a host of other game, prolific birdlife, indigenous flora galore, and of course, the dramatic river, we were enchanted by one of the country’s best kept secrets.
