Nature & Wildlife
The Letaba district offers a wide variety of scenic, historical and cultural attractions. The Coach House is the ideal base from which to explore the glorious scenery, indigenous forests and the rich ethnic cultures of the region.
A day-trip to the world-renowned Kruger National Park which is just an hour's drive away, will provide an unforgettable wildlife experience.
Nature lovers will delight in visiting the nearby Modjadji Cycad Forest which is the largest concentration of the ancient cycad, Encephalartos transvenosus in the world. This is the home of Modjadji the Rain Queen, immortalised by Rider Haggard in "She".
Accompanied excursions to the local villages offer unique glimpses into the lifestyle and customs of the Shangaan and Northern Sotho people.
Guided cultural tours will take you into the rural villages where an ancient way of life is preserved amid traditional thatched dwellings. Experience indigenous arts and crafts, music and dance, rituals and legends and gain fascinating insights into local lifestyles.
Other activities available include elephant back riding, crocodile ranch tour or choose from a variety of exciting adventure sports - from leisurely trout fishing to high adrenaline kloofing and river tubing! Farm tours and botanical interests can be arranged.
Fifteen hectares of garden surround the hotel. An eclectic collection of indigenous and exotic plants and trees have been assembled to provide one of the most interesting and well laid out hotel gardens in the country.
Below the hotel an indigenous aloe garden flows into orchards of macadamia trees. Linking onto one of the farm walks, a selection from one of South Africa's best known clivia collections The McNeil Collection has been planted. This wild garden enchants a small stream canopied by grand indigenous trees.
Maps of marked walking paths are available at Reception - take a leisurely stroll or a brisk hike on one of the many routes - from 30 minutes to 3 hours. For added enjoyment, simple or sumptuous picnic basket lunches may be taken and enjoyed on the outing.
