Description
In Latin the words Patre Nostre means:
-Our Father-
According to the locals this is the Prayer the The Portuguese sailors uttered when their ship run aground many years ago.
Many of the local folk are descendant from them and can rightly be called the Founding Fathers of Paternoster.
Paternoster is one of the few remaining fishing villages and many still fish using traditional methods.
"The Watcher" appears in the early hours of the morning, walking up and down on the
beach, looking at signs in nature to give guidance to the fisherman as to where the nets should be cast to catch the Harder's (Mackerel).
Paternoster is a crayfish (lobster) paradise with Local Fishermen selling them next to the road during season.
One of the most enjoyable Local Customs is KREEF BRAAI which means Crayfish Barbeque and entails lots of fine white wine, crayfish fresh from the sea and an open fire.
Fresh fish straight from the sea is also a great delicacy and is enjoyed by one and all, specially if it is done on an open fire with a glass crisp
white wine from one of the local cellars and the company of good friends.
